WIP 2015 Year End Review

This may seem exhaustive...but I find it quite nice to look back at the various yearly reviews to realize I really have accomplished a lot. Since blogging has helped me to track what is done, I always find it to be an opportunity of reflection and review of the past year and a way to consider changes for the new year.

I wanted to come up with a way to keep this fairly organized, so worked out a 'table' (not easy in blogger) via HTML and hope this will help give a quick recap with images of my projects.

Airborne
A 2014 finish that I can finally reveal.

It is part of the gallery in the DVD of "You Can Quilt!"

Has been touring at AQS Quilt Weeks nation wide. Stop by the Phoenix show in February 2016. I'll be doing author demos on Thurs. and Fri. Would love to meet you!

"Rosie" fabric is available in my studio or at spoonflower.com in a variety of sizes and in different fabrics.
2015 Finishes from my 2014 WIP list
#1 "Scottish Cross" - Country Register Pattern Sample and gift to my in-laws to commemorate their 50th wedding anniversary and memories of our trip to Scotland to celebrate

#2 "Woven Braid" - Island Batik Spring 2015 Release - Meadow Collection of Fabrics - Pattern Sample for Market

This is now available as a pattern for purchase. I have kits for any sizes as well. Pattern is free when you purchase a fabric kit from me.

#3 "Fish at Grand Coulee" --Turning Twenty - Grand Coulee Fishing - Class Sample

These panel prints and some of the coordinates are still available from me.

#4 Elephant's Play - Jungle Edge - Class Sample - gifted to childhood friend's baby

These fabrics and pattern are available from me.

#5 Elephant's Play - Water Hole - Class Sample

These fabrics and pattern are available from me.

New 2015 Finishes
1. Twelve Butterfly Placemats (Randolph) --honestly a gift of thanks to a generous customer who has had an incredible amount of faith in this venture of mine and has given me tremendous support.

2.Island Batik - Dangling Diamonds -- released at Fall 2015 market --this pattern is now available and uses Bella Nonna Design Studio Boondoggle rulers. The pattern is bundled with 4 quilted-in-honor styled quilts using the same ruler.
3.Island Batik - Fire Island Jewels -- released at Fall 2015 market -- now available as a pattern called "Jewels". This is finally an issue of a pattern from my 2011 McCalls Design Entry and a commission completed in 2010 called "Royal Peacock Jewels".
4. Butterfly - Triangle Frenzy Table Runner(Randolph) --part of the placemat set shown in (1) above.
5. Butterfly Table Topper (Randolph) --another coordinating item with the placemats above.

6. Fresh Lilacs Table Runner #1 (Heisler). Using these beautiful border print and charm squares from the "Fresh Lilacs" line of fabric from Maywood studio --this was given as a hostess gift to Liz Heisler who hosted my husband and I and my in-laws on the Olympic Peninsula. So sweet of her to share the photo from her table.

7.Fresh Lilacs Table Runner #2 (Wernick) --another hostess gift shared with a couple known to my parents since the couple was in high school. They now live off the grid in a very sophisticated and beautiful location looking across the river into Glacier National Park. My husband and I along with my inlaws were hosted by them this summer as we shared many national parks with my inlaws.
8. Island Batik - blog hop entry ("Haystack Christmas") with seasonal attachments. All embroidery and applique work for the 'seasonal attachments' done by Julie Tapley and Nancy Goddard.

9. Ovarian Cancer Awareness - 2 - 1/4 Circle of Geese Mug Rugs (Teal Mini Swap)

The 3rd image is what I received in the swap. There was just too much about it that made me pass it along to a former neighbor who is a survivor.

Barbara Townsend was my swap partner.

10."News Worthy" - asterisk runner -- outtakes from Ch. 6 - Improv
11.You Can Quilt! Ch. 8 - Curves Runner - "Flight Line" - using Island Batik fabrics
12."1 + 1" for DJ's wedding adapted from Strips Ahoy (Tricia Cribbs - Turning Twenty)

Also made 'his and her pillow cases just for fun. My sis works at a high school and is often the female admin on overnight trips. Thought the main pillow fabric would be appropriate for her interactions with students.

And added two king size that I gave to my parents at Christmas.

Commissions
Randolph Pillow (2 sided)

T-shirt quilt for Birdie Hensley mostly in memory of the 20 years of houseboating cruises ....affectionately called the "Boobie Princess" with good friends who became a close support group through the many steps that life took them.
Joint Effort Projects
Quilted 3 quilts, pieced/bound by Nancy Cargo (2) and Linda Roberts (1), that were donated in honor of a friend's childhood friend's daughter who died of cancer. Donated to a children's cancer ward back east.

Linda added 2 of her own and I added one of my own too.

A total of 42 quilts were donated for this particular project.

Zoe - Fishy Fishy store sample (pieced by Betty Baerg)
Grand Coulee Dam Laser Light Show - KISSed Quilts Row by Row 2015 (pieced by Julie Tapley)
2 Island Batik Kaleidoscopes ( blocks only ) --surprise !! for Kathy Engle anniversary

The entire quilt was pieced with a new Fall 2015 line - French Roasted.

Below is the finished quilt that was a joint effort with other Island Batik Ambassadors and IB staff.

Raffle quilt (10 blocks from Janice B/H, 2 additional butterfly blocks from Nancy Cargo, assembled by Linda Roberts, quilted by Marlene Oddie, binding handwork done by Barb Kelton) donated to the Grand Coulee Dam Area Chamber of Commerce Vintners and Brewers Auction Dec. 2015

These wine bottle bags were also donated to the same event through a joint effort of KISSed Quilts donating the materials and patterns and Coulee Creator labor -- specifically Barb Kelton and Carol Estrada making them and adding their own finishing flare.

These fabrics and patterns are available in the studio. Six different colors of grommets are also available.

Great teamwork!

Fresh Lilacs center piece and coasters (Julie Tapley embroidery work)

So grateful for Julie's assistance over the summer when I needed to be out of town, but Row by Row was happening.

The Fresh Lilacs border fabric is still available in my shop.

Fish at Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area (piecing and binding by mom (Betty Baerg) and using "The Fabric Patch", Ephrata, WA's Row by Row 2015)

This is inspired by national park service areas and is a sample of a simple design you ight make. All fabrics for the (non scenic) rows and borders are available in the studio.

my latest update for 'WIPs'
Heartfelt Holiday - a design by Heidi Kory of EQ ....look to see the finished project during the #IslandBatik blog hop in February/March 2016

    1. what a long list! they are all great!
your binding is great, I usually do my binding by hand, but lately I've been lazy and want to do more by machine, do you use a special foot/technique?
